Goodbye Dwight Lauderdale!

Dwight Lauderdale

Says Jan,

"On May 21st 2008 one of my favorite TV news anchors retired.

In my opinion, Dwight Lauderdale of Local Channel 10, Miami,

was one of the smoothest, warmest, most professional anchormen

I had ever seen on TV. I always turned on Channel 10 for the local

news update and was gutted when I learned that Dwight's face would

no longer be greeting me when I switched on.

Fellow anchors asked viewers to offer their tributes to Dwight on the

Local 10 website. As soon as I heard this I knew what my tribute must be; that

there was a song for Dwight inside me waiting to come out! That

evening I sat down with pencil and manuscript and wrote "Anchors

Aweigh"."

Jan writing

Local 10 put the song on their website and featured it on one

their news programs.

You can hear it at : http://www.local10.com/station/16338353/detail.html

or by clicking here: "Anchors Aweigh".

Anchor’s Aweigh
Music & Lyrics by Jan Hinton

Thirty two years at Local 10, and we cannot believe we won’t see you again…..
After Wednesday night and your goodbye, we’re just gonna sit and cry!

Refrain
‘Cause Dwight, you are the one, we’re gonna miss you, you son of a gun,
Cast off Admiral Lauderdale,
Now’s the time you must set sail……… into the sunset,
Anchor’s Aweigh!

What a distinguished, cool career, since you followed the sunshine and wound up here.
Presidents and VIP’s, you have put them all at ease!

Refrain
Yes, Dwight, you are the one, we’re gonna miss you, you son of a gun,
Cast off Admiral Lauderdale,
Now’s the time you must set sail…….. into the sunset,
Anchor’s Aweigh!

You will be home to live your dreams, whether dinner with Minnie or traveling free,
No more deadlines in the way, now’s the time for you to play!

Refrain
And Dwight, you are the one, we’re gonna miss you, you son of a gun,
Cast off Admiral Lauderdale,
Now’s the time you must set sail…….. into the sunset,
Anchors Aweigh!

Think of the things that you can do, like collecting your jazz and your R&B too,
Or just listening to your Local 10, while Laurie and Charles say again and again,

“There’s a hurricane coming, It’s 3 days away!”, and they have to keep track of what they can say!!

Refrain
Oh, Dwight, you are the one, we’re gonna miss you, you son of a gun,
Cast off Admiral Lauderdale,
Now’s the time you must set sail……… into the sunset,
Anchors Aweigh!
Into the sunset, Anchors Aweigh!
Into the sunset, ANCHOR’s AWAY!!!
